I got all the mpg data (2008-1984) from:
fueleconomy.gov

I then do several simple scatter plots, coloring the markers by the 
'make/manufacturer'.  Also, I add charttips & drilldown, so you can 
mouse over the markers and see all the detailed info.  Also, if you
clidk on the marker, it launches a google search for pictures and
info about that particular car.

These plots are really only good for getting a general feel for
the data, and the data is so dense that a lot of dots get stacked
up in the exact same location (and you only see the color & charttip
for the 'top' one).  I then follow-up by doing more detailed plots
by each 'make/manufacturer' in gas.htm.
