Note that I try to keep this info up-to-date, but be sure to check the web links, and also check with these parks & locations to be 100% sure (I could be wrong, and sometimes their rules change...)

Lake Crabtree has year-round boat launch (2-lane ramp, and car-top launch area) at the far end of the park. You can also launch boats by hand from the grassy field, or launch from the dock at the main boathouse (the boathouse dock is very low to the water, and is made for launching kayaks, etc - there is even a handicap-accessible space on the dock). There is no launch fee, or boat rental fee (as of 2019) - it's free! Only electric motorized boats are allowed (no gas motors). The BridgeIISports group sometimes has a paddling race here. The NCSU sailing club practices here. Abel Hastings practiced here to prepare for the olympics. It's not the deepest lake around, but plenty deep enough for great paddling!
