I assume this data is based on the 2010 Census, and the salary numbers
are for "during the course of their careers" (ie, not starting salary).
Someone in a blog comment (http://simplystatistics.tumblr.com/post/12599452125/expected-salary-by-major) said...
"The data are from 25 to 64 year old respondents who responded to the
