Overview of the Interactive Schedule Viewer

The Interactive Schedule Viewer (ISV) is an applet that displays a project schedule graphically in the form of a Gantt chart—a bar chart that plots the tasks of a project over time. With the ISV, you can chart the predicted early and late schedules, and identify critical and slack activities. You can visually monitor a project in progress by charting the actual schedule and comparing it to the target baseline schedule.

Note: The ISV is not a scheduler. The ISV displays the data that is input to it, but it does not validate the input data.

The following display shows an example of the ISV user interface.

The Interactive Schedule Viewer user interface

The user interface includes the following:

  1. the menu bar, which includes the following menus:
  2. the name of the SAS data set from which the schedule data was read. This item does not appear when the schedule data is read from an XML file.
  3. the chart title.
  4. a table of chart variables, such as the activity name in a project tree. Some charts might have a pop-up menu enabled that appears when you right-click in the table. You can use the pop-up menu to manipulate the table.
  5. the chart legend.
  6. the chart horizontal scroll bar, which enables you to scroll the chart on the time axis or to zoom in or out. The chart author can specify the initial position of the scroll bar, which can be one of the following:
    • the beginning of the project schedule
    • the current time in the project schedule that is indicated by a time-now line
    • a fixed date in the project schedule that the chart author specifies
  7. the chart display area.
  8. the chart vertical scroll bar, which enables you to scroll on the table axis.
  9. the chart time scale, which includes the upper, middle, and lower time scales.

Using the ISV user interface, you can do the following:
